The Gerry Bertier #42 Foundation will continue to spread the word about Gerry’s life and achievements AFTER the Titan years. Gerry was known before the movie and after the movie for two different reasons. After the accident that left Gerry paralyzed, he refused to give up and he would let people know that “I don’t care if I’m paralyzed. God left me with a brain and I’m going to use it to help people less fortunate” and that’s what Gerry did by helping people with physical challenges.
The foundation’s goal is to continue raising awareness and support for SCI patients, their therapists and doctors at VCU with a commitment to improve hope, function and quality of life. Rehabilitation at the center is an intensive program focused on functional assessment, therapeutic intervention, community reintegration and long-term clinical follow-up. Interventions include medical management along with maximizing self-care, mobility and psychosocial abilities. Gerry dedicated his life to the advocacy of wheelchair patients.
One of the needs moving forward is to help purchase a van to transport patients. The foundation seeks sponsors, supporters and donations-to be donated to the only Level 1 trauma center in central Virginia and one of 20 nationwide to have federal designation as a Model Systems of SCI Care.
With the continued help of all our loyal supporters, the Gerry Bertier #42 Foundations future looks brighter than ever.
